The process for identifying viable options would include answering the following questions: ● ● ● ● ● What different words or phrasing might be used to say the same thing? How would I explain an opposite condition or fact, and would a negative example provide an understanding through contrast? If I imagined that the problem/fact/skill which I want to teach were an object which I could move around in any direction, would I be able to notice distinctions from varying angles? Would I be able to identify the “object's” component parts?

The teacher should then positively affirm and reinforce students for offering their ideas in front of the other students. Even if somewhat amiss, the teacher should receive the idea while perhaps offering a modification or corrected statement (for more factual pieces of information). The idea is for students to feel confident and safe in being able to express their thoughts or ideas. Only then will students be able to engage in independent discussions that consider and respect everyone’s statements.

Depending on the lesson, female students are more likely to be interested in working with partners or perhaps even individually. On the other hand, male students may enjoy a more collaborative or hands-on activity. The gender of the teacher will also come into play when working with male and female students. Of course, every student is different and may not fit into a stereotypical role, and getting to know their students’ preferences for learning will help teachers to truly enhance learning in the classroom.
